Birka

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Birka is a beautiful, gentle female dog who, despite her past, makes a very calm and friendly impression. She was found on the street with her puppies and was lucky to be brought to safety. Now she lives in Fantanele and is waiting for a loving home to be found for her. At about 55 cm, Birka is a medium-sized dog. Her black coat with the pretty brown markings on her face, chest and legs makes her look particularly friendly. Her gentle gaze and soft, slightly hanging ears make up her special charm. Birka has shown herself to be a very pleasant and balanced dog so far. She is friendly, does not seem shy and apparently lets people get close to her quite naturally. At the same time, she is rather quiet and not particularly active. Birka radiates a pleasant calmness and seems to be a dog that prefers to take life easy. Above all, Birka is a wonderful mother. She cares lovingly and attentively for her puppies and is a real supermom for her little ones. She gives them security, patiently looks after them and takes good care of them. It is lovely to see how caring and loving she is with her babies. Birka is already showing what a gentle and loving nature she has. However, we are just getting to know Birka. She is currently still taking care of her puppies and has probably had a lot to deal with. That's why she might be tired or overwhelmed by the new situation right now. We will only see how much joie de vivre, energy and personality she has when she can relax and is no longer responsible for her little ones. Whether Birka gets along with other dogs or cats has not been tested yet. We therefore do not want to make any hasty statements about this. We wish for Birka people who give her the time to settle down in peace and build trust. She already looks like a wonderfully gentle and balanced dog who will surely form a close bond with her humans. We can well imagine that there is a great companion in her who will enrich her family with her calm and loving nature. Birka deserves to finally arrive after her life on the street - with people who give her security and show her how beautiful a home can be. And after everything she has done for her puppies, we wholeheartedly wish this loving mother that someone will be there for her now. Birka travels spayed, chipped, vaccinated, dewormed and de-fleaed with an EU pet passport to her new home. She will be placed for a deposit after a positive preliminary check. Thank you, Kathrin, for taking on the sponsorship of her name. Status: 22.08.2026 Further information on the preliminary check and deposit.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 23.10.2026

About Birka

What life with Birka looks like

Birka is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Birka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Birka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Birka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Birka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Birka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Birka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Birka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
