Adopt Blueberry

Female · Young · 2 years

Blueberry is looking for an adult only home. She can be rehomed with other dogs, and potentially cats and small animals (though we have no history of her behaviour around these animals). Blueberry is a very scared, nervous and timid young lady. From the moment she arrived, she just wanted to hide away and not even be looked at; heart-breaking to witness. Blueberry has come a long way during her time in the shelter, but still has a long way to go. It still takes Blueberry a long time to build up trust with a new person, but when she does, she is a super wiggly and sweet girl, and when she meets with another dog who matches her energy…we see her come alive. Her tail goes up, her eyes brighten, and we see her true playful character. Though it is not essential, we do feel Blueberry could really benefit from another dog in the home, or certainly lots of doggy pals to play with and help build her confidence in a new environment. When playing with dogs Blueberry does like a little rough and tumble so, if there is another dog in the home, it would need a similar play style to ensure compatibility. Blueberry’s new owners will need to have experience of managing a nervous dog and a lot of time and patience to spend building that initial bond, to then go on and show her that the rest of the world and the people in it are not so scary after all. Blueberry will likely always have an element of anxiety about her, but we are hopeful with the right family her fears will slowly ease and the beautiful girl we see glimmers of in the shelter, can come shining through.

About Blueberry

What life with Blueberry looks like

Blueberry is a small young adult dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blueberry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blueberry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blueberry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blueberry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blueberry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blueberry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blueberry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
