Bonito

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

During our Sardinian tour in March 2026, a visit to the LIDA shelter in Olbia was naturally on our agenda. Since the weather was very changeable during this trip, with frequent heavy rain showers disrupting our photo sessions, we couldn't photograph all the dogs Marco had arranged for us on a single day. We therefore had to make another trip to the shelter. And when it started raining heavily on the way, we thought this appointment would literally fall through. But when we arrived at the shelter, it had stopped raining. And fortunately, the dogs we met on that day were in a covered area, so they had all stayed dry. The three puppy dogs were found on New Year's Day 2026, just two weeks old, abandoned and left out like trash. So the new year continued as badly as the old year had ended. Money for fireworks, celebrations, champagne, and lavish feasts—always there. But getting a female dog spayed, that's too expensive … And even using the free spaying offers would be too much of a hassle. So it's easier to throw the babies away. All of this is increasingly frustrating for us, but of course, we don't give up. The three tiny ones were therefore incredibly lucky to be brought to the shelter by their finders, where they were immediately taken in. They were hungry and thirsty, who knows how long they had been lying there where they were found. Since the puppies were so young, it meant feeding them by bottle around the clock, every 2 to 3 hours, until they were old enough and able to feed themselves. This is a task that only a few helpers are willing to take on. Thanks to the loving care at the shelter, the three little ones made it. And as you can see, Bonito, Bricko, and Bueno, as they are now called, have grown into very handsome puppies. During the photo session, the three were still a bit shy. But that's understandable. They don't know what it's like to be picked up, and the staff at the shelter have no time for individual affection with over 700 dogs and numerous cats to care for daily. So we very much hope that Bonito, Bricko, and Bueno won't have to stay at the LIDA shelter for too long but can soon begin their journey to Germany. We wish Bonito, Bricko, and Bueno to find their forever homes with loving families. Would you like to take Bonito, Bricko, or Bueno into your family and give them a happy, healthy dog life? May 6, 2026: During our team project tour, we not only got to know wonderful partners but also these four special fur noses. The brothers Bonito, Bricko, Bueno, and Doghino have developed wonderfully—friendly, open, and full of trust. Grateful for every small bit of affection and with open hearts, they are eagerly waiting to find their own loving homes. If you are looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption brings not only joy but also a lot of work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide support.

About Bonito

What life with Bonito looks like

Bonito is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bonito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bonito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bonito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bonito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bonito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bonito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bonito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
