Brioche

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 16 months

Brioche is just a baby at under 18 months old. She spent most of her life in a public shelter in Romania and is a very nervous girl, but already showing so much potential and you can see how desperately she wants to trust us. The video we first received of Brioche was straight after she'd just been piled on by 20 other dogs that she was sharing a pen with. Poor Brioche was terrified and had pinned herself to the back of the wooden kennel, curled into a tiny ball screaming and just waiting for it to be over, it's very likely she wouldn't have survived this attack if 2 shelter workers weren't right there at the time and hadn't have dragged her out to safety. Brioche arrived with us at Oakwood Dog Rescue very shortly afterwards and was quickly adopted. Unfortunately, 4 days in, we got a call to say their current dog wasn't happy with her being in the home and was becoming more withdrawn. We asked for them to give them both more time but the more Brioche was growing in confidence and wanting to play and interact with the resident dog, the more they were backing away and wanting nothing to do with her. Brioche was becoming very lonely and was laid by herself out in the garden for a majority of the days, it was affecting the dogs and the whole family and so, after 4 weeks in the home, it was decided that Brioche was to be returned. It's usually heartbreaking for us to see a dog come back to kennels but when we let Brioche out for her play time, she couldn't control her excitement and she started playing and screaming and doing zoomies, she was SO happy to be back and surrounded by dogs again that actually wanted to interact with her, she was absolutely in her element. Brioche gains all of her confidence from other dogs. We've never had a problem with a single dog that we've mixed her with at the rescue, she's always just so happy to be in their company. Without at least one other dog in the home, we believe any kind of progress with Brioche will be extremely slow. For this reason, Brioche will need at least one other resident dog already living in the home, they will need to be friendly and confident and want to interact with her, this is the only way Brioche will ever learn to feel safe and secure and learn how to be part of a family in a home. Brioche has not yet been cat tested. Brioche loves nothing more than to be running around and playing with her dog friends. She shows to have moderate to high energy levels. Broche has never been completely alone before and so any time alone in the home would need to be slowly built up over time. Time left alone with another dog, she's likely be ok for up to 4-5 hours Brioche is not yet brave enough for strokes and so until this happens, we won't be attempting lead training. Brioche has no form of basic manners, this will all come in time once she has learnt to trust her people.

About Brioche

What life with Brioche looks like

Brioche is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Oakwood Dog Rescue in Kingston upon Hull.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brioche, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brioche?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Oakwood Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brioche on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brioche if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Oakwood Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brioche already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brioche isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Oakwood Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brioche and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
