Brownie

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 16 years

Our Brownie sat in the animal shelter for a longer period before, was always very stressed, and was eventually rehomed three years ago at the age of 13 under the premise that he was likely not to live much longer. Under the wonderful care of his new family, Brownie blossomed again and has now surprised everyone—he is now a proud 16 years old and still enjoys his walks! Unfortunately, however, he had to return to us in the animal shelter again at this advanced age because his owner is seriously ill. Brownie is therefore looking for a family that he can join and who would like to give him a nice old age despite his advanced age and the health issues that come with it. The friendly male dog has excellent social behavior; he gets along with people, dogs, and cats and even likes children, even those in the crawling stage (although he would prefer a home with a bit less chaos). Due to his age, he no longer has the best hips and has developed significant arthritis in the lumbar region, which causes incontinence. We therefore wish for him, although this is like searching for a needle in a haystack, for people who either have experience with incontinent dogs or are willing to learn about the matter.

About Brownie

What life with Brownie looks like

Brownie is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brownie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brownie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brownie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brownie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brownie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brownie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brownie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
