Saturday, Sunday, Holiday 14:00 - 16:00 Uhr 07 81 - 33 33 3Monday - Friday 10:00 - 12:00 Uhr14:00 - 17:00 Uhr Saturday, Sunday, Holiday 14:00 - 17:00 Uhr Small, but oh. Please only continue reading and fall in love if these 3 points are met without exception. Do you really have experience with demanding dogs? Don't be fooled by appearances? Can you lead a dog clearly and structurally? Then please continue reading and fall in love. Our Brutus (born 08/2016, neutered, vaccinated), small, sweet, and fluffy - at least most of the time. Brutus can be a real treasure, always active, always on point, adventurous, and eager to learn, incredibly cuddly and playful. The Malteser breed has many facets and talents, and with the right handling and the right person, he can be a very uncomplicated dog. However, he must be led with security and consistency. The little fluff can also be different. Brutus defends resources, has problems with being combed or groomed, and once in a new home, he also likes to defend his primary caregiver. Toward strangers, he is suspicious and does not want to be touched. If he feels threatened, he snaps. Brutus has no problem using his teeth. He has lost his biting habit, and that must not be underestimated. Often, we are not believed when we describe Brutus like this. Yes, he can be a treasure, but he can also be different. And since we know him very well, we can also assess that very well. The behavior of Brutus naturally has a reason. As a puppy, he came from Turkey to Germany, unfortunately to very inexperienced owners. Brutus was already a very insecure dog at that time, and the non-existent leadership, the lack of knowledge, and the completely wrong handling led to the fact that Brutus is a not entirely uncomplicated dog today. When he was then handed over to us, we had to do a lot of work. This also worked so well that we could then place him in a new home. Unfortunately, Brutus had to return to us after about a year because the owners did not adhere to the requirements and were completely overwhelmed with him. So we had to start from the beginning again. We have now made up a lot of ground, also thanks to his handlers who have consistently worked with him and taught him a lot. And this work must continue. Brutus still needs education and consistent and consistent leadership. He must know what he is allowed to do and where his limits are. He must not shift these on his own. Brutus likes to move. He enjoys walks, uses his head for search games, and loves to be occupied with his toys (or to occupy himself with them). Brutus is a dog who needs a lot of time and attention. We therefore wish for applicants who are not heavily committed at work and who bring the necessary time and who also know how to deal with more demanding dogs. Brutus is certainly not a beginner dog. If you are interested in getting to know Brutus, please note that all people who are to live in the same household with Brutus must attend all meet-and-greet appointments. Under no circumstances should only one person appear, as the likelihood is great that Brutus will fixate on this person and then defend her against the other family members. Brutus is unfortunately not suitable for a family with children. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Brutus

What life with Brutus looks like

Brutus is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Offenburg in Offenburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brutus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brutus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Offenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brutus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brutus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Offenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brutus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brutus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Offenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brutus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
