She came to us as a drop-off dog from an animal shelter in early 2025. At that time, she weighed only about 16 kg and was in a very poor nutritional condition. Quickly it became clear that Roxys stomach has trouble breaking down the food. Therefore, she requires special food as well as enzymes to be able to properly utilize the food. With the right nutrition, she has since gained weight well. Already during her walks, it was noticed that Roxys hips are not in order. After we had her physically set up so that further examinations were possible, MRI and CT confirmed the diagnosis: severe hip dysplasia (HD). The hips will need to be surgically treated at some point, but according to veterinarians, this is not immediately necessary at the moment. Characteristically, Roxy is an absolutely friendly and people-oriented handler. She meets everyone openly, greets everyone warmly, and is very happy to receive attention and contact. With other dogs, she is conditionally compatible. Roxy knows all basic commands and shows herself to be well manageable on walks. Only her prey drive occasionally comes to the fore. For this reason, cats or other small animals should not live in her new home. For Roxy, we wish for a loving home that is largely free of stairs and provides her with the necessary consideration, time, and care that she needs due to her health limitations.

About Roxy

What life with Roxy looks like

Roxy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Offenburg in Offenburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roxy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roxy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Offenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roxy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roxy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Offenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roxy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roxy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Offenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roxy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
