Brownie

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

In early May 2023, the pregnant hen Bonita was found wandering alone near the island capital Puerto del Rosario. At Finca Zoe, she was able to rest and gave birth to eight chicks – one of them was Brownie. In September 2023, Brownie was allowed to travel to Germany and seemed to adapt well initially. But as life sometimes goes, circumstances in his family changed. The people who had grown very fond of him can no longer do justice to Brownie and his needs. To give him the chance at a truly suitable home, they have reluctantly decided to re-list him for placement. At home, Brownie shows himself to be an incredibly loving and cuddly hen. He seeks the proximity of his reference persons, enjoys attention, and shows his gentle, clingy side there. At the same time, he is a sensitive male hen who can react sensitively in certain situations when uncertainty or overloading comes into play. Due to an incident, Brownie is required to wear a muzzle outdoors, which he accepts without issue. For him, this is not a restriction but a sense of security – for himself, for his people, and for his environment. For Brownie, we wish for a home in a quiet, rural environment where he is not constantly inundated with distractions. A large, securely fenced garden would be ideal so he can move freely and burn off excess energy. Children should be older and bring a clear, calm communication. Whether Brownie gets along with cats, we cannot say. With other hens, he has a harder time, which is why we prefer to see him as a single hen. Brownie loves mental work and blossoms when he gets tasks that challenge his mind. He needs people who enjoy working with him, supporting him, and at the same time, giving him the calm he needs to process all the impressions. With the right mix of stimulation, structure, and affection, Brownie can be a wonderful companion. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and medically attended and can be visited and acquainted with at his foster home upon arrangement. Brownie only wishes to be given a chance at a home that is truly forever.

About Brownie

What life with Brownie looks like

Brownie is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Brownie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Brownie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Brownie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Brownie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Brownie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Brownie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Brownie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
