Bruce

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

Bruce is looking for an adult only home, he could potentially live with other dogs, and maybe cats or other small animals, though we have no history of him around such animals Bruce arrived into our care a worried boy and struggled with this new place in the early days. But since spending time with the team he has really come out of his shell and is an affectionate and playful chap! He also arrived very overweight and is still on a little bit of a journey with this, which will need to be continued into his new home. Despite this, he has quite a bit of energy. He loves to play with a ball and go out for long walks Bruce enjoys meeting other dogs and has been friendly with all dogs he has met so far! However, when he was on foster, he did show some challenging behaviour around children, so he will need to be in an adult only home with no visiting children and someone who can continue his training with him Bruce is a bundle of fun and has become very well loved by the team and although still finds certain things a little worrying, he has come so far, and we cannot wait to see how far he will go when he is home and his confidence blooms even more!

About Bruce

What life with Bruce looks like

Bruce is a small adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruce, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruce?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruce on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruce if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruce already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruce isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruce and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
