Bruno

Border Collie · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Bruno is a handsome 9-month-old Border Collie mix who has been living with his foster family for several months but hasn't found peace there. He doesn't thrive in a household environment; it's too busy for him. They had already found a new owner, but Bruno's aggressive behavior towards other dogs and visitors turned out to be more severe than they initially thought. Bruno has experienced much turmoil and instability in his life so far. This is far from ideal, especially considering his age and breed. He needs challenges, training, and guidance. He seeks leadership and expects it from his owner. Once he knows what's expected of him, you can achieve a lot with him. On-leash, Bruno can become aggressive towards other dogs. We keep him on a muzzle in the park because he gets overstimulated by barking and may nip at your knee. However, if you keep him focused and maintain contact during walks, he listens very well. We are looking for 1 or 2 adult individuals with experience with Border Collies to adopt Bruno. We're unsure about his suitability for work, but we do know that Bruno wants to be active. If this can be done on a hobby level, it would be fantastic for him. Additionally, Bruno is a cuddly bear who loves hugs. Interested in Bruno? Interesse in Bruno?

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a large puppy/kitten border collie dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
