Adopt Bruno

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Name: Bruno Age: ca. 2024 (2 Jahre) Breed: German Shepherd-mix Gender: male Neutered: nein In the animal shelter since: 24.01.2026 Bruno is a ca. 2-year-old, unneutered, lively German Shepherd-mix with a few ideas in his head. The young man is full of life and energy – that’s why we are looking for dog-experienced people who can give him security, clear structures, and loving consequences. Bruno would certainly also be happy if his new owners are active and can find a great job to keep him busy. The big four-legged friend is very cuddly and incredibly people-oriented. He enjoys every bit of attention and would like to be with you all the time. At the same time, he needs clear boundaries and a consistent, but fair leadership so that he can continue to learn and develop well. He is very eager to learn and respects the boundaries, initially with a good memory. On the leash, Bruno already runs quite well, although there is certainly room for improvement. With regular training, he will surely make progress quickly. In dealing with other dogs, Bruno has not shown any problems with us so far. However, he is very stormy and pushy during the first meeting, which not every four-legged friend likes. An ideal match would be a confident only dog who already has experience living with fellow animals and can give Bruno orientation. From time to time, Bruno still pees in his box, but this is mostly at night or when there is too much excitement. With regular walks and less stress in everyday life, this will certainly be resolved quickly. In general, we can imagine Bruno well in a family. However, the children should already be sturdy or older, as it can happen that he knocks them over out of sheer joy. He is of course vaccinated and dewormed. If this lovable whirlwind has caught your interest or you still have questions about him, feel free to contact us at the animal shelter. Bruno looks forward to your call 🐾☎️ We are available from Monday to Friday from 8-17 at 09151/ 6095923.

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hersbrucker Tierheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hersbrucker Tierheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hersbrucker Tierheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hersbrucker Tierheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
