Adopt Bruno

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Bruno is a friendly and laid-back fellow. He knows basic obedience, is leash-trained, and at first glance, he seems like the perfect dog. But: Other dogs make his life difficult. He simply doesn't like them and the contact puts him over the edge. Currently, he can be brought out of his tunnel vision if you react in time and handle him well. For people, he is even better, friendly, cuddly, wanting to please, and a quiet companion in the house. An ideal location would be one where another dog isn't around every corner. To walk with Bruno, a certification of knowledge is required. Requirements in Schleswig-Holstein: • Certification of knowledge (obtained through a successful theoretical and practical certification exam with the dog considered dangerous by authorities) various dog schools offer this. • Temporary certification of knowledge (for 3 months) a community can apply for a temporary permit so that you can train for the practical exam with this dog. • Training certificate (for those 18 years old, personal suitability, and required reliability) • Permission from the relevant authority • Muzzle and leash requirements (not on one's own property, but the property must be secured so the dog cannot escape) • Proof of liability insurance completion • Microchip identification (completed by the animal shelter) "Resocialization" possible: If dogs have become problematic (bitten a person or another animal, or behaved uncontrollably) the classification as a dangerous dog can be rescinded after 2 years if the dogs have successfully passed a behavioral assessment and have been evaluated by a specialist in behavior or therapy.

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel in Kiel.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
