Bruno

English Bulldog · Male · Senior · 9 years

Nature: Outwardly tough, inwardly soft Bruno is a French Bulldog as described: agile, lively, and equipped with a healthy portion of self-confidence. Bruno knows exactly what he wants—and even more precisely, what he doesn’t want. Once he’s won your trust, you’ll find in him a loyal companion who loves to snuggle and enjoy close proximity. He’s curious, actively seeks new experiences, and quickly gets excited about shared activities. However, towards strangers (whether human or dog), Bruno is skeptical and reserved. In the company of other dogs, he is unyielding and confrontational. He prefers a few, targeted social partnerships over small talk at the dog park. Behind the charming Bulldog facade lies a dog with edges. Bruno carries a “backpack” with him: due to a strongly pronounced controlling behavior, there were biting incidents in his previous family. He is wary of strangers and does not want to be touched—here, we consistently secure him with a muzzle. A heart problem was diagnosed in Bruno, so he needs to take a tablet daily. Due to his breed and health component, he is not a partner for performance sports like jogging, but he enjoys long, leisurely walks all the more. The ideal home: Bruno is not a dog for beginners but a true match for enthusiasts. We are looking for a home for Bruno with breed-experienced people who appreciate his strong character and set clear boundaries. He needs an environment that offers him security through structure and channels his controlling instinct into orderly paths. Bruno is a brave, self-confident dog who recovers quickly from stress but needs someone to “cool him down” when overexcited. If you’re a Bulldog enthusiast and are looking for a dog with character who will go through fire for his favorite people, then Bruno is your man! Send us an email with the fully completed interested party application form if you are interested in one of our animals, or contact us via our contact form with any questions. Please provide a callback number. Please do not come without an appointment!

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a medium-sized senior english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Oelzschau in Oelzschau.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Oelzschau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Oelzschau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Oelzschau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
