Bubi Balou

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

Bubi Balou – the charming heartbreaker is on the hunt for his luck. Sometimes life plays out differently than we wish. Our beautiful Bubi Balou had a loving home, but after his owner passed away, he lived with her adult children for two years. Now, with a second baby in the family, there simply isn’t the time to give this clever fellow the attention he deserves. And so, the eight-year-old German Shepherd-Labrador mix is now searching for a new home – one where he can finally be the center of attention again. Bubi Balou is a dream dog: well-trained, knows all the commands and even a few tricks. He doesn’t chase – even if a deer hops in front of his nose, he stays cool. Joggers, cyclists, and other environmental stimuli don’t impress him either. He now walks well on a leash, and after the adjustment period, he can also run freely. He had little contact with other dogs until now, but during a walk with a female dog from the animal shelter, he showed himself to be a true gentleman. Bubi Balou is a natural charmer around people – with his gleaming white “Blendax smile,” he immediately won our team over. His little quirk? New Year’s Eve is his absolute horror. Then, our brave male dog turns into a scaredy-cat, as fireworks put him in great fear. Thunder, on the other hand, leaves him completely unfazed. Bubi Balou can be left alone for up to five hours, rides politely in the car, and is generally a relaxed companion – as long as his needs are taken seriously. He is incredibly intelligent and requires both physical and mental stimulation. But playing fetch until exhaustion is not for him – it stresses him out too much, and his joints thank him when you avoid it. Important to know: food is sacred for Bubi Balou. He can be disrespectful to smaller children when it comes to food, so children in his new home should be at least 14 years old. Now, only the right home is missing for this wonderful fellow! Who will give Bubi Balou the attention he deserves and a loving forever home? If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, and well-trained companion, then Bubi Balou could be the perfect match for you!

DE·Show original

About Bubi Balou

What life with Bubi Balou looks like

Bubi Balou is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bubi Balou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bubi Balou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bubi Balou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bubi Balou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bubi Balou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bubi Balou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bubi Balou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
