Bucky

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

I’m Bucky—a sporty, young male dog brimming with energy and intelligence. I love working together with my people, learn quickly, and am almost always thrilled to earn a tasty treat. Once I’ve built trust, I become an absolutely wonderful and incredibly fun companion. Here’s what I’m like: I know the basic commands and enjoy being active. We can still work together on improving my leash manners. At first, I tend to be somewhat skeptical around strangers—especially men. During this phase, I need peace and space. In the shelter, I may even defend resources in such situations, so a careful approach is crucial. At home, this behavior might manifest differently, yet my new people should still be prepared for it. I wear my muzzle reliably and calmly. In new situations—even in my future home—I’ll continue wearing it at first. With other dogs, I get along well depending on whether we like each other; cats would need to be tested individually. Once I’ve gained trust, I’m a very approachable, open, and sometimes even demanding companion—and truly funny, though occasionally a bit stubborn, as is typical for my breed. What I’m looking for… is a home with people who are experienced with dogs or with my breed, who can provide a smart dog with security and guidance. Children shouldn’t live in the household. Several meet-and-greet sessions will be necessary so that I can build trust. Attending dog training classes would be a great help for me. Would you like to get to know me? If you bring patience, humor, and experience, and if you’re eager to work together with me, I’d be delighted to meet you. Maybe we’ll soon become a really great team! If you’re interested, please get in touch via the inquiry form below—I’m waiting right here for you.

About Bucky

What life with Bucky looks like

Bucky is a large young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
