Buster

Male

Buster – Merseyside 2years Male, Shaded Red Smooth Coat Miniature (6kg) Not Neutered Adoption Fee £450 Buster is a cheeky chappy with a heart of gold, bursting with energy and always ready for a good cuddle at the end of the day. Despite a difficult start in life, where his needs were neglected and he was kept confined to a cage, he is now thoroughly enjoying the good life and showing just how much potential he has in the right home. Because he is still learning how to navigate the big wild world, he is looking for a patient, dedicated owner who is willing to go back to basics and help him build his confidence. Having missed out on early socialization, Buster can understandably find the world a bit overwhelming at times. Like many dachshunds, when he feels unsure, he tends to voice his concerns with a lot of barking towards people and other dogs. He needs a prospective adopter who will be his biggest advocate, managing his environment to make him feel safe while gently guiding him through new experiences. He is already making huge strides in this area, even successfully joining his current owner on trips to local coffee shops. Due to his history, Buster does display some resource guarding behaviours around food, which will need careful and consistent management in the home. He also struggles with being left alone, as he forms incredibly deep bonds with his favourite people. Teaching him that it is okay to be on his own will need to be a gradual process. Buster is an incredibly sweet and loving boy who would thrive with a companion to lean on. We feel he would benefit greatly from sharing his home with a calm, confident, spayed female dog who can show him the ropes and help him realize the world isn’t so scary. With the right support, patience, and a lot of love, Buster will make a wonderfully loyal companion. About Buster

What life with Buster looks like

Buster is a extra-large adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buster, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buster?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buster on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buster if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buster already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buster isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buster and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
