Buttercup

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Young · 1 year

Buttercup had a difficult start to life. she was found abandoned in a box, beside a bin alongside her three two week old kittens and was brought into our care by a kind member of the public. After receiving treatment and lots of much needed love and care from our animal care team, Buttercup is now ready to start looking for a forever home of her own. Buttercup is a very sweet beautiful young cat who has a gentle nature. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she has had time to settle in, her affectionate personality really shines through. She enjoys gentle attention, head scratches and loves spending time with her people. Buttercup is looking for a quiet, calm and peaceful home where she can take her own time to settle in and build up her confidence with her new family. She would thrive in a settled home with a family who have experience with cats and understand the importance of allowing her time to settle at her own pace. She would be best suited to a home with sensible children aged 8 years old and over who understand she may need space while she settles. Buttercup may be able to live with another cat of similar personality, but it unknown how she would react to a dog in the home.

About Buttercup

What life with Buttercup looks like

Buttercup is a young adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at USPCA.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Buttercup, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buttercup?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. USPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buttercup on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buttercup if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — USPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buttercup already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buttercup isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with USPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buttercup and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
