adoption requirements adoption process Ask about this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Ask about this cat now! Caio is only 10 months old and has already experienced a lot in his young life. We were alerted last year by an older lady who saw children holding the young tomcat on a leash. They mocked and abused him. Caio was undernourished and very frightened. The local animal welfare workers immediately went to the scene and took him to a clinic. It turned out he had herpes, which fortunately could be treated in time. Now he is fine and happily waiting in the foster home for his new home. You can see from the young tomcat's difficult past that he has a scratch in his right eye. Fortunately, the eye is still functional and he can see almost normally, so the eye wasn't removed. But nothing can spoil a beautiful tomcat. Despite his difficult start in life, Caio is a very active and playful tomcat - a real bundle of energy. He is a little treasure who purrs with joy. Also, he is a brave explorer, because he likes to climb and jump everywhere. If possible, he would like to jump along too. Since Caio needs the company of his fellow animals, we don't want to place him in single housing. If there is no other cat waiting for him in his new home, he would gladly take one of his friends from the foster home with him. Whether he gets along with dogs has not yet been tested. Since the white tomcat has had bad experiences on the street, he will only be rehomed as a pure indoor cat. He would certainly be happy with a cat-safe netted balcony where he can relax. Caio can start his journey to his new home immediately and is already neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for fleas. He also tested negative for FIV and FeLV and comes with an EU pet passport.

About Caio

What life with Caio looks like

Caio is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
