Adopt Caius

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Profile: Age: Born around 2013 Gender: male neutered: yes Character: friendly, calm Size: approx. 47 cm In shelter since: February 2023 Special: due to his high age, we urgently seek a home (emergency placement) I am Caius. I will tell you something about myself. For many years, I led a life in freedom. I lived on the streets and made my way through life with other dogs. It wasn't always easy for me. The everyday struggle was to find food and a safe place to sleep. But on the streets, there was enough freedom. The freedom to decide where I go or who I go to. As a street dog, I met people who liked me, but also people who saw us street dogs as a nuisance. I quickly learned to distinguish. On the streets, it was a matter of survival. People who did not tolerate street dogs are responsible for my being here. Now I am here and facing the next hurdle. At first, I was a bit intimidated by the noise and excitement and didn't come out of my shell. But that changed over time, and now I really enjoy the attention from the staff. I get along very well with my doggy friends in the kennel. We dogs are supposed to get the chance to have our own family here. I can't quite imagine that yet. But who knows? Maybe there are people who fit me and who want to give me a chance? From now on, I am on the lookout for a loving family that is ready to turn a shy, experienced dog into a happy, confident family dog. If you feel a connection, I would be delighted to hear from you. Yours, Caius If you are interested in Caius, please fill out our Prospective Owner Form () or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Caius is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system that monitors the entire animal transport within the EU. The dogs travel neutered (if old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, for dogs over 12 months of age, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is conducted before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. The sponsorship of Caius has been taken over by Lara St., who ensures a full food bowl. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

About Caius

What life with Caius looks like

Caius is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caius, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caius?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caius on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caius if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caius already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caius isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caius and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
