Adopt Calippo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Calippo arrived at the animal shelter in the spring of 2023 together with his mother, Valle, and two siblings. While his siblings have already found homes, Calippo still waits to be discovered. As a puppy, Calippo was a cheerful, uncomplicated young dog, playful and open to both people and other animals. But as he grew older, his behavior changed—he became more shy, especially around people. While he still plays happily with other dogs and gets along well, he retreats when encountering unfamiliar people. Trust comes slowly to him. But those who get to know him are rewarded with small steps forward: With a little patience, he now allows his primary caregiver to lead him on walks. And if you have some treats, you have a clear advantage—then Calippo approaches curiously and even allows gentle touches to his nose. Calippo lives in a group of dogs at the animal shelter and shows himself to be friendly and balanced there. He loves to play, but just as much enjoys quiet moments in the sun. He is not an excitable whirlwind but a dog with a pleasant temperament. He loves walks—especially with people he trusts. But he feels uncomfortable in the city: cars, strangers, and the many new things stress him quickly. Beside a confident person, he could learn to handle such situations better. At the vet, Calippo is actually very well-behaved—patient, calm, and cooperative. Calippo is looking for people with patience, empathy, and ideally experience with shy dogs. A quiet home in the countryside would be ideal—he is currently still too stressed by the city. A garden would be nice, but is not a must. He could live as a single dog, but he would certainly be happy with the company of a confident, friendly dog who gives him security. Whether sporty or more laid-back—what matters is that his people want to spend time with him, accept him, and take him on a step-by-step journey through the world. For people who prefer to be out in nature rather than on a busy shopping street, Calippo would be a wonderful companion. Calippo now lives with a foster family in 86399 Bobingen and can be visited there at any time.

About Calippo

What life with Calippo looks like

Calippo is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calippo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calippo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calippo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calippo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calippo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calippo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calippo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
