At the shelter in the Netherlands: Update: 4-9-2025 4 new photos added. Update: 10-8-2025 10 new photos added. Update August 12, 2024: Beautiful Candela has already been staying with a foster family for quite some time. She is a quiet, gentle, affectionate true Podenco at the foster family. Strangers are initially observed from a distance, but soon her curiosity overcomes her caution, and she comes to make friends. Candela is a kind and sensitive girl who is a very nice, pleasant, sweet, easygoing and loyal companion for people without children who live quietly. Busy cities, living environment and children scare her, and although such situations can certainly become less stressful for her through calm training, it would be too much to ask of her to move there. Her foster family lives in a quiet area with peaceful walking opportunities and Candela has been a relaxed, happy and stable dog for a long time there, who enjoys going for walks, is friendly towards other dogs and people, behaves well inside and around the house (not including the unwanted cleaning up of food that you don't properly clean up), in short, a lovely lifelong friend! We hope that this beautiful young lady, who so far has not received any interest or attention, will soon find a nice suitable place with loving owner(s) where she can grow old happily! 6 new photos and a video added. Input April 16, 2024: Candela is completely used to life in the Netherlands and is currently with a foster family. This means that a 'meet and greet' with this nice girl is simply possible. At the foster family, she walks perfectly on a leash, but she does have a decent prey drive. Candela gets along well with other dogs, both males and females. Together with another companion, she can also be left alone at home. She is an enthusiastic girl who loves cuddling, running, playing and walking. But she has one big real hobby, and that's digging. Completely integrated, so... Candela still finds young children quite exciting, especially near places like a school yard where there are many noisy playing children. We are looking for a place for Candela where she can be helped in her own pace to overcome her fear. Who can and wants to help Candela and give this nice girl a new chance so she can quickly start new adventures with her own owner?

About Candela (BE)

What life with Candela (BE) looks like

Candela (BE) is a adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Candela (BE), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Candela (BE)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Candela (BE) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Candela (BE) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Candela (BE) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Candela (BE) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Candela (BE) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
