Candy

Mixed Breed · Female

Among plastic bottles, torn garbage bags, used car tires, and remnants of what others no longer need, she sat: Candy. Small, shy, with just one eye – yet a gaze that goes straight to your heart. Whether she was born this way or lost her second eye in an accident, we cannot say. What we do know: Candy has learned to see with her heart, and that makes her truly special. Candy is a friendly but sensitive and cautious female dog who needs some time to get comfortable with new people, unfamiliar situations, or strange places. Once she senses that you mean well, her little tail starts to wag tentatively, and soon her initial skepticism turns into closeness and trust. With other dogs, Candy gets along well and likes to follow the lead of her four-legged housemates. She would likely feel much more secure as a confident only dog in her new home, though that's not essential. She also has no issues with cats. Candy belongs to those dogs who cherish harmony and do not seek drama. Candy comes from abroad through the animal shelter and knows only life in the animal shelter and on the streets – she has no idea about soft dog beds, regular walks, or a relaxed family routine. For a dog like Candy, moving to a home in Germany means discovering the world anew, step by step, at her own pace. Her family should be aware of this and ready to accompany her lovingly and patiently into this new life. Candy's ideal dream home would be in a quiet setting, as city hustle and bustle would most likely overwhelm her. We hope for the dear female dog a family with heart, dog sense, and the ability to take a step back when Candy can't quite keep up yet. Candy is not a "particularly poor, one-eyed female dog" that needs to be rescued – she is a wonderful, gentle creature with character and potential. If you can imagine giving Candy a loving home where she finally feels at ease – with time, affection, and a secure place in your heart – please send us a message with a detailed introduction to your family and living situation. We look forward to planning the start of Candy's new life together with you. Candy currently lives in our partner shelter in Romania and can be transported to her new home neutered, vaccinated, treated for internal and external parasites, and microchipped.

DE·Show original

About Candy

What life with Candy looks like

Candy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope for lost Souls e.V. in Kleinostheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Candy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Candy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for lost Souls e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Candy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Candy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for lost Souls e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Candy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Candy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for lost Souls e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Candy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
