(Can video) UPDATE May 2026: Canela came to Germany 14 days ago (04/18/2026) and is still in the process of adjusting. The short-legged Podenco is very friendly and cuddly, but at first, she is a bit shy and cautious when meeting people. Canela lives with her foster family in a mixed pack and has integrated well. After the first days of getting to know each other, Canela now intentionally seeks the company of the other dogs in the house and garden, especially the Podenco that belongs to the pack. In the house, she is calm and sleeps relaxed with the other dogs. During dog meetings on a leash, Canela is currently a bit unsure and sometimes barks. However, with closer acquaintance, she shows herself to be social and friendly. Outside, in the woods and fields, Canela is generally approachable and also seeks contact with people. However, if a squirrel or a cat crosses her path, she becomes very excited. Therefore, Canela's people should enjoy working further with her on her approachability outside, and exploring the forests and fields together with her. We are looking for a quiet home for our sensitive Canela, with at least one friendly and open-minded dog companion. We do not see Canela in an immediately urban environment, more in the green with a garden, where she can run properly once in a while. Canela will not miss being well occupied; she likes to relax comfortably on the sofa next to her humans at the end of the day. UPDATE April 2026: Canela has been in the shelter for a year now and so far, no one has really shown interest in her. Canela is one of those dogs that fall through the cracks because they are unassuming and don't stand out immediately. But once someone meets Canela personally, things change, because her reserved, friendly, and gentle nature makes her appear in an entirely different light. Canela is simply wonderful, lovable, calm, and her modest nature opens the door to every heart. Canela is patient and waiting until it's her turn to get some cuddles. The other dogs always go first, Canela never pushes in, avoids any kind of conflict, and if she is ignored, she patiently waits for the next encounter. Canela should not be sitting in the shelter, because she is a female dog that only finds peace in a family that can breathe and finally gets seen. She should not just be in the second row, but receive love and encouragement, and should not have to seek the quiet moments in the shelter for regeneration, which she needs so much to relax. Watching Canela makes the heart heavy, because you can see that she is chasing a little bit of peace and then absorbs it like a sponge. Canela had a borderline Leishmania titer upon entering the shelter, with unremarkable organ values. Canela was rescued from the street in Seville. Perhaps she was abandoned because she was no longer considered useful for hunting or breeding. We don't know. At the animal shelter, Canela is currently still reserved and cautious. Her look seems a little sad, and she is overall somewhat overwhelmed by the new life situation. She must build trust in the new people. While Canela is currently adjusting to the animal shelter, we have already started looking for a home for this nice female dog in the best age. We will add to her profile once we know more about Canela and her character. One thing is certain: she will bring a Podenco prey drive and needs walks in the woods and fields to be truly happy. (mit Video) UPDATE Mai 2026: Canela kam vor 14 Tagen (18.04.2026) nach Deutschland und befindet sich noch mitten in der Eingewöhnungsphase. Die kurzbeinige Podenca ist sehr freundlich und verschmust, anfangs bei Menschenbegegnungen jedoch etwas schüchtern und vorsichtig. Canela lebt auf ihrer Pflegstelle in einem gemischten Rudel und hat sich gut integriert. Nach den ersten Tagen des Kennenlernens sucht Canela nun in Haus und Garten gezielt die Nähe der anderen Hunde, insbesondere der zum hauseigenen Rudel gehörenden Podenca. Im Haus ist sie ruhig und schläft in Gemeinschaft der anderen Hunde entspannt. Bei Hundebegegnungen an der Leine ist Canela derzeit noch etwas unsicher und bellt auch mal. Bei näherem Kennenlernen zeigt sie sich jedoch sozial und freundlich. Draußen, in Wald und Feld, ist Canela prinzipiell gut ansprechbar und sucht auch den Kontakt zum Menschen. Kreuzt ein Eichhörnchen oder eine Katze ihren Weg, ist jedoch die Aufregung groß. Canelas Menschen sollten also Freude daran haben, draußen weiter mit Canela an ihrer Ansprechbarkeit zu arbeiten und gemeinsam mit ihr Wälder und Felder zu durchstreifen. Wir suchen für unsere sensible Canela ein Zuhause der leisen Töne, mit mindestens einem freundlichen und aufgeschlossenen Hundekumpel. Wir sehen Canela nicht im unmittelbar städtischen Umfeld, mehr im Grünen mit einem Garten, in dem sie auch einmal richtig rennen kann. Vernünftig ausgelastet wird Canela es sich nicht nehmen lassen, gemütlich auf dem Sofa neben ihren Menschen den Tag ausklingen zu lassen. UPDATE April 2026: Canela ist nun ein Jahr im Shelter und bisher hat sich noch nie jemand wirklich für sie interessiert. Canela ist einer der Hunde, die durchs Raster fallen, weil sie unscheinbar sind und nicht direkt ins Auge fallen. Doch hat man Canela persönlich kennengelernt, wendet sich das Blatt, denn gerade ihre zurückhaltende, freundliche und sanfte Art lassen Canela in einem völlig anderen Licht erscheinen. Canela ist einfach wundervoll, liebenswert, unaufgeregt und ihre bescheidene Art öffnet ihr die Tür zu jedem Herzen. Canela ist abwartend und geduldig, bis sie an die Reihe kommt um auch ein paar Streicheleinheiten zu erhaschen. Die anderen Hunde haben immer den Vortritt, Canela zwängt sich nie dazwischen, vermeidet jede Art von Konflikten und bleibt sie unbeachtet, wartet sie geduldig auf ein nächstes Zusammentreffen. Canela sollte nicht im Shelter sitzen, denn sie ist eine Hündin, die erst in einer Familie zur Ruhe findet, die durchatmen kann und die endlich gesehen wird. Die nicht mehr nur in zweiter Reihe steht, sondern Liebe und Zuspruch erhält und sich nicht mehr nur die stillen Momente im Shelter zur Regeneration suchen muss, die sie so dringend benötigt um zu entspannen. Sie zu beobachten macht das Herz schwer, denn man sieht ihr an, dass sie der Ruhe ein wenig hinterherläuft und sie diese dann aufsaugt, wie ein Schwamm. Canela hatte bei Aufnahme im Shelter einen grenzwertigen Leishmaniosetiter bei unauffälligen Organwerten. Canela wurde in Sevilla von der Straße gerettet. Möglicherweise wurde sie ausgesetzt weil sie für die Jagd oder für die Zucht nicht mehr zu „gebrauchen“ war. Wir wissen es nicht. Im Tierheim zeigt sich Canela derzeit noch zurückhaltend und vorsichtig. Ihr Blick scheint ein wenig traurig und sie ist insgesamt von der neuen Lebenssituation etwas überfordert. Vertrauen in die neuen Menschen muss sie erst noch aufbauen. Während Canela sich nun gerade im Tierheim einlebt, machen wir uns schon einmal auf die Suche nach einem Zuhause für die nette Hündin im besten Alter. Wir werden ihr Profil ergänzen, sobald wir mehr über Canela und ihr Wesen wissen. Sicher ist, dass sie als Podenco Jagdtrieb mitbringen wird und Spaziergänge in Wald und Feld braucht, um wirklich glücklich zu sein.
