Captain Porkchop

Male · Young · 2 years

Captain Porkchop is a real sweetheart, who has so much love to give his forever family. He loves nothing more than rolling around on the floor getting all the love he can! Whilst in our care, we have had to remove Captain Porkshop's tail due to essential medical reasons. Tail docking is illegal in the UK, except for essential medical reasons or for certain breeds of working dogs. We are against unnecessary tail docking and do not condone it. Captain Porkchop is a beautiful lurcher boy with a gentle soul and a whole lot of love to give. While he can be full of life and enjoys playtime, especially with his beloved soft toys, he also has a sensitive side and can find new environments a little overwhelming. He’ll need a calm, adult-only home with patient adopters who can give him the time and reassurance he needs to settle in and feel safe. Captain Porkchop does have his bouncy, boisterous moments, particularly when he’s feeling comfortable and happy, but he thrives best in a quieter setting where he can build confidence at his own pace. He’s still learning about being left alone, so his leaving hours will need to be built up gradually. Captain Porkchop will need to be the only pet in his forever home, with access to peaceful walkies where he can work on building his social skills. If you have a gentle home, a soft toy or two, and a kind heart, Captain Porkchop could be the companion you’ve been waiting for.

About Captain Porkchop

What life with Captain Porkchop looks like

Captain Porkchop is a large young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Tail removed for medical reasons, needs gradual training for being left alone, requires calm environment

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Captain Porkchop, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Captain Porkchop?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Captain Porkchop on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Captain Porkchop if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Captain Porkchop already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Captain Porkchop isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Captain Porkchop and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
