Adoption Requirements Adoption Process Request this Animal Now! Adoption Requirements Adoption Process Caramell has found his forever home! His Story: Our sweet senior Caramell was able to move to his foster home in mid-December. Now we’re looking for a family or single lady who would like to offer this lovely old man a wonderful retirement. Caramell was found in Romania by an animal-loving woman deep in the forest, nestled in a tree hollow, and was initially in extremely poor condition. From the Public Shelter Bistrita, he traveled to his foster home in December 2024. Nothing is known about his previous history. He is at least 8 years old and stands just 25 cm tall. At first, he’s somewhat reserved around strangers, but quickly warms up and forms a close bond with his primary caregiver. Caramell prefers a calm environment and feels most comfortable in his familiar surroundings. He thoroughly enjoys being petted. Overall, from day one at his foster home, Caramell has proven to be a very pleasant companion: he doesn’t bark, stays home without any problems for a few hours, walks nicely on a leash, and—due to his age—is content with shorter, quieter walks or a stroll through the garden. At his foster home, Caramell quickly learned to use the litter box—though this could change again if he were to move. Despite his advanced age, Caramell remains eager to learn and wants to please his people. He quickly becomes anxious when exposed to loud noises, unfamiliar people, or sudden movements, making him unsuitable for households with children. Caramell gets along very well with other dogs and cats—but these should also be of a calmer temperament, as, due to his age, Caramell’s perception and reactions are somewhat limited, and he can easily become overwhelmed. An accessible, ground-level home would be ideal, but Caramell can also be lifted and carried without any issues. His most distinctive feature: he’s a gourmet! He turns his nose up at dog food of any kind—instead, he loves homemade meals. Due to his age, he also requires additional dietary supplements. Therefore, a new home where culinary delights are appreciated would be perfect. Caramell repays this care with special enthusiasm at mealtime. At first, Caramell caused us great concern, as he had pancreatitis and suffered from severe abdominal pain. However, his loving foster mom has now brought this under control, and right now our grandpa Caramell is in top shape. Caramell is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He comes with his EU pet passport and, after a positive pre-adoption check and payment of a reduced adoption fee of 325 euros, can move into his new home. Who can offer Caramell the perfect, calm home? Many thanks, Sylvia! You’ve given Caramell his perfect name. As of February 6, 2025

Vielen Dank Sylvia! Du hast Caramell seinen passenden Namen geschenkt. Stand: 06.02.2025

About Caramell

What life with Caramell looks like

Caramell is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caramell, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caramell?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caramell on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caramell if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caramell already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caramell isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caramell and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
