Currently in foster care in Großefehn, 26629. Carlo originally comes from Romania and arrived in Germany at four months old in September 2025, going straight into foster care. There, he showed his calm, gentle nature and got along wonderfully with all the dogs and cats there. In March 2026, Carlo moved to a family with children. However, this family was overwhelmed by the young dog, so unfortunately Carlo had to move out again quickly. At his new foster home, Carlo is very playful and people-oriented toward all genders. A supposed "male problem," as reported by his previous home, has not yet been confirmed. After an initial period of uncertainty, he quickly blossomed and loves nothing more than cuddling on the sofa all day long. Otherwise, he tends to be cautious but curious inside the house. Carlo also settles down well indoors and quickly learns to stay alone for short periods. Outside, he appears somewhat uncertain and excited, which often leads him to pull on the leash. It’s important here to pay attention to his arousal level and continue training his leash manners. Carlo enjoys being outdoors and often orients himself toward his human companion. He already knows several basic commands such as "sit," "stop," "heel," recall, and can remain calmly seated when being put on and taken off the leash. Carlo gets along great with the dogs living in the house and loves playing energetically with them. After proper socialization, cats are no longer an issue for Carlo either. During walks, when encountering other dogs, he sometimes remains neutral and sometimes barks briefly—but quickly becomes responsive again. Here, maintaining the right distance and practicing empathetic training are crucial. At first, Carlo had some resource guarding issues regarding food and resting places around other dogs. However, these have almost completely resolved themselves at his foster home through positive training. To keep things that way, it’s important to continue reinforcing this training. Aside from the few issues mentioned, Carlo is an unproblematic and very friendly young dog with typical puppy antics. He can already do a lot and happily learns new things with enthusiasm and motivation. We’re looking for active, loving people who enjoy further developing Carlo and would never want to give him up again—because we definitely don’t want Carlo to become a “wandering trophy.” • Gender: Male • Age: Estimated May 2025 • Height: Approximately 50–55 cm • Weight: Approximately max. 20 kg • Neutered: No, appointment scheduled soon • Leash-trained: In training • Does he get along with children: Yes, from age 12 onward • Gets along with cats: Yes • Gets along with other dogs: Yes • Location: 26629 Großefehn • Active couples and single individuals, families with older children • People who already have other dogs or cats, as well as people without any other pets • People living in rural or green environments Would you like to give Carlo a loving home? About Carlo

What life with Carlo looks like

Carlo is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. in Großefehn.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Free Dogs - Vergessene Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
