Carlos

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Carlos is a real, loving beauty, but unfortunately, it hasn't been going so well for him. He is desperately seeking a new home with at least one new, understanding companion. As he is large and muscular, it would be nice if the person/people in his new home are familiar with the Molosser and Cane Corso breeds. He is likely a beautiful mixed breed from one of these breeds or both. Carlos's background is sad. His primary caregiver gave him up at the animal shelter. He left the country and couldn't/wouldn't take his dog with him. Carlos fell into a deep emotional depression. He struggled with the animal shelter situation and the partly chaotic noise and activity in the large shelter's enclosures. He suffered greatly from the loss of his person and was extremely distraught and sad. He lost a significant amount of weight in a short time. Only since a spot in the enclosure became available for the gentle female dog Monique and the peaceful Carlos moved in, has he improved. He could rest and eat in peace, received special food for his bodybuilding and for his stressed digestion, and he actually started gaining weight again. His mood also improved. He is very content in his enclosure community, is happy when his caregivers approach, greets them at the fence, and plays lively with Monique on the leash. It is clear how much this sensitive, powerful male dog needs a companion. He will bond very strongly with him. Currently, the female dog Monique is a small substitute. Carlos is very friendly and gentle with people and dogs. Nothing is known about his experience with children. He is leash-friendly. For him, it would be a great gift to be able to live with people who have an apartment with a garden or even a house with a garden and live in a quiet, nature-friendly environment. A loving, friendly only dog who welcomes Carlos would be nice, but not necessarily important for him. The most important thing for him is to have a home again and be allowed to belong, as well as understanding, knowledge, and of course love for this special mixed breed of these special breeds. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V. © 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Carlos

What life with Carlos looks like

Carlos is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
