CAROLIN, adorable tortoise Pélusios Castaneus to adopt via the association UMA. (44640 Rouans) SIREN NUMBER: 794786228 GENDER: Male DATE OF BIRTH: 2015 IDENTIFICATION: Not identified LOF/LOOF: Not known NUMBER OF ANIMALS IN THE LITTER: Unknown WEIGHT: 0.533 kg COMPATIBILITY: OK with everything, but must be alone in his aquarium. CARE: Carolin is a gentle tortoise that is a bit shy and a little greedy. He always watches to see if his human has any food to give when he approaches! He loves to hide in clay pots or aquatic plants for a moment of peace. This tortoise enjoys basking under a lamp and swimming with the Guppies. Curious and dynamic, he won't hesitate to follow your movements along the tank while swimming. While he is more at ease in the water, he remains cautious on the surface or when held in his hands. Carolin has a varied diet, consisting of raw and fresh foods, fish or meat, dandelions, endives, and his aquatic plants. This beautiful African swimmer will brighten your heart and eyes if you are an aquatic turtle enthusiast. Come meet him in his foster family! PLACEMENT CONDITIONS: He will need a spacious aquarium (minimum 400L), filled to its maximum capacity with water, as this species is made for great swimmers. The water must be maintained between 22 and 25 degrees maximum, a thermostatic submersible heater (1W/1L) will allow you to heat the water while monitoring its temperature. At the bottom: Loire or river sand, building or pool filter sand (it must be the finest possible and definitely not sea sand). You will need to provide a beach with a sand box (the same as in the water) above to keep the most aquatic space. The beach will be easily accessible with a ramp and the tank deep and large enough for her to bury herself completely to estivate. Install a heating lamp with UVA and UVB (the SOLAR RAPTOR 80W is currently the most suitable and best-rated – replace it annually as UVs degrade), place it about 30 cm above the shell, to have a beach temperature of 30 degrees without burning. A good filtration system is also necessary, as with all aquatic turtles, to avoid mycosis, for which an external filter, filtering 5 times the volume of water per hour – so for a 400L tank, an external filter of 2000L/h. One tortoise per aquarium, as they are territorial and can be dangerous to each other out of their natural context. Her needs are raw, fresh, and even live foods: fresh water fish, crustaceans, insects, shells, snails, etc. Chicken meat occasionally, whole live insects / gastropods (crickets, mealworms, various larvae...), occasional chicken liver / heart (vitamin) - the volume of the head every two days, edible aquatic and terrestrial greens to her heart's content. About Carolin

What life with Carolin looks like

Carolin is a small adult mixed breed animal waiting at 30 Millions d'Amis in Paris.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Carolin far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carolin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carolin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 30 Millions d'Amis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carolin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carolin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 30 Millions d'Amis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carolin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carolin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 30 Millions d'Amis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carolin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
