CARONTE

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 12 years

Caronte - obedient & affectionate - Male, German Shepherd mix, 12 years old, born ca. early 2014, SH 65 cm, 30 kg, negative test, vaccinated, chipped, neutered, EU passport. - Waiting in Spain! - Poor Caronte, now very attached, affectionate and obedient. He has a vision problem - he doesn't see 100%, but that doesn't stop him from leading a normal life, with certain limits, and he would really deserve a loving family! Caronte likes human contact very much. He gets along well with other dogs, as long as they respect his space, the cat interaction has not been tested, but can of course be arranged upon request. He loves children very much. Caronte was found on a large field and has been in the shelter since March 2021. We received several reports about a dog in a terrible condition, but we couldn't catch him at first, after a few attempts, patience and calmness, we could take him in, he was very anxious. After what he must have experienced on the street and since he didn't know us, he was afraid at first. We took him to a vet, he was malnourished, his teeth were in a very bad condition and had the problem with his vision. Due to his condition, he underwent a general analysis, everything was fine - he had no other diseases. Caronte recovered with us and gained strength. We were able to have him neutered and took the opportunity to clean his mouth, a lot had to be done. His vision problem is chronic, he doesn't produce tears, so he has a gray layer in his eyes. He will have to be treated with drops for life, so that his eyes don't dry out and he can see better. He gets along well with other dogs, as long as they respect his space, good with females and submissive males. The cat interaction has not been tested, but can of course be arranged upon request. He loves children very much. His eyes are a bit better now. He can walk well on a leash, he is now very happy, attached, affectionate and sociable. He loves being with people. Since he has limited vision, you have to be aware that he often only notices things when he is very close. But for that, he is not to be overlooked. CARONTE - gehorsam & verschmust - Rüde, Dt.Schäferhund-Mix, 12 J., geb.ca. Anf. 2014, SH 65 cm, 30 kg, neg. getestet, geimpft, gechippt, kastriert, EU-Paß. - Wartet in Spanien ! About CARONTE

What life with CARONTE looks like

CARONTE is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Tier-Not-Hilfe in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting CARONTE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CARONTE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tier-Not-Hilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CARONTE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CARONTE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tier-Not-Hilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CARONTE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CARONTE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tier-Not-Hilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know CARONTE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
