Odin

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 2 years

Breed: German Shepherd-Jack Russell Gender: male, neutered Born: ca. November 2015 Status: available for placement Odin is still playful, cuddly, and very clingy for his estimated age. He is very open with women. Since Odin came from the streets of Romania, I unfortunately do not know what he has experienced there. He is not really talkative with men but with a lot of sympathy, maybe one or two men can stroke or cuddle him, but it depends on the sympathy and how Odin feels. With other fellow animals, one must be very cautious, as it also depends on the sympathy and how other dogs react to him. I have been in dog training classes Bello Fantastico for over 2 years. A lot has been achieved with extensive training. Among other things, it was trained that Odin reacts minimally aggressively to other dogs. There are still a few problems that are, however, well manageable. Additionally, the recall on the lead and with a whistle was trained. This works very well with a lot of patience and perseverance. Odin reacts calmly to children, but if they are too lively and excited, he becomes very restless and needs his retreat. If children then harass him and do not let him be, he can bite. Therefore, it is NOT recommended that Odin be placed with a family where children are under 16 years old. Furthermore, Odin is afraid of loud noises (construction sites, thunderstorms). For New Year's Eve, Odin needs his medication so that it is bearable for him. He is also familiar with bus and train rides, as I often took him on the bus. Since the muzzle is required on the bus and train, Odin is also familiar with the muzzle. On New Year's Eve, Odin must be secured with harness, collar, and two leads. For questions, please contact.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a medium-sized young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Neu-Amerika in Annaberg-Buchholz.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Neu-Amerika handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Neu-Amerika will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Neu-Amerika early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
