Carrell

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Carrell came to us as a found animal at our shelter. After no owners came forward, we are now searching for a new home for the young male dog. In the beginning, everything and everyone was overwhelming for Carrell. This is why he kept his distance. When his personal space was crossed, he would growl and could have snapped in self-defense. However, Carrell is a very curious dog who builds trust with the right motivation and patience from a person quite quickly. Once the ice is broken, his joy knows no bounds. The little guy often lets his energy out, which makes showing and adhering to rules and boundaries particularly important. It is highly likely that this was neglected in his upbringing. Generally, Carrell is an insecure dog, which is especially noticeable during his daily walks. Everything that is unfamiliar to him is observed from a distance and barked at if necessary. Interacting with fellow animals is something he barely knows, so he still needs support from a human. For Carrell, we are looking for an active household that not only has the time to care for the young dog but also the patience to win his heart. Besides the lack of upbringing, physical and mental exertion are very important. It is essential that he learns to calm down. Even though he can be compatible with fellow animals, we see him more as a single dog, where a confident single dog could be beneficial for his further development. Due to his hunting motivation, small children should not live in the household. If you are interested in Carrell, please write us a meaningful email or call us. Gets along with other dogs.

About Carrell

What life with Carrell looks like

Carrell is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carrell, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carrell?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carrell on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carrell if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carrell already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carrell isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carrell and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
