Adopt Casimir

Mixed Breed · Male

Casimir came to us as a found cat and is born around 2024. Although he looks like a classic British Shorthair tomcat, his behavior is not exactly typical of the breed. When he gets in a bad mood, which can happen quite suddenly, he also likes to make his feelings clear using his claws. He can be clingy and cuddly but can quickly change his mind about that. His new owners should have some experience with cats or be familiar with feline body language. Children should therefore not be part of his new home. At the animal shelter, he showed that he is not very fond of other cats and prefers to live as a solitary prince. He has no strong desire to go outside and would be content living in an apartment as long as he doesn't have to be alone for too long. When it comes to food, he enjoys a varied diet, as his preferences are very much dependent on his daily form. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Casimir

What life with Casimir looks like

Casimir is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Lahr in Lahr.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Casimir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Casimir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lahr handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Casimir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Casimir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lahr will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Casimir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Casimir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lahr early rather than rehoming privately; they know Casimir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
