Adopt Cayden

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Update 29.04.2026:Cayden has barely grown and thus must be rechecked with an RTG in two months. Then it will be seen whether both legs need to be operated on (one at a time, with a gap). Our Cayden came from an impoverished neighborhood, where his owner received him as a gift from her daughter. However, the woman did not want to keep him. So, Cayden eventually ended up in our partner shelter Allatbarat in Hungary and is now waiting for his second chance. Cayden is an absolutely lovely, open, and curious young dog with a wonderful nature. He brings a pleasant temperament, is friendly to all people, and also shows himself to be accommodating with children. Especially charming is his sometimes rather clumsy manner. Of course, Cayden still has much to learn. The dog 1x1, the everyday life in a home, and all the small and big things that belong to a happy dog life. He shows himself to be compatible with other dogs and is ready to explore the world with his people. For Cayden, we are looking for engaged people or a loving family who would like to accompany him on his further journey. A home with a close family connection is especially important to us – a place where he can be encouraged and challenged and finally arrive. Note:Cayden was born with a genetically based bone malformation. Due to this anomaly, certain bone areas grew deformed and twisted ("verquirlt"), which significantly impaired his natural growth and led to painful limitations in his movement apparatus. After thorough veterinary diagnostics and in close consultation with our animal clinic in Hungary, it was decided to surgically correct the affected bone segments. In each intervention, the malformed bone pieces were carefully removed to prevent further misgrowth, reduce pain, and improve mobility. The operation was successful. We will keep you updated. Update 29.04.2026:Cayden ist kaum gewachsen und somit muss in 2 Monaten nochmal ein Kontroll rtg gemacht werden. Dann wird man sehen, ob beide Beine operiert werden müssen (gleichzeitig geht nicht, nur hintereinander, mit Abstand). Unser Cayden stammt aus einem Armenviertel, wo ihn seine Besitzerin von ihrer Tochter geschenkt bekam. Die Frau wollte ihn allerdings nicht behalten. So landete Cayden schließlich in unserem Partnertierheim Allatbarat in Ungarn und wartet dort nun auf seine zweite Chance. Cayden ist ein absolut lieber, aufgeschlossener und neugieriger Junghund mit einem ganz tollen Wesen. Er bringt ein angenehmes Temperament mit, ist freundlich zu allen Menschen und auch mit Kindern zeigt er sich umgänglich. Besonders bezaubernd ist seine manchmal etwas tollpatschige Art. Natürlich muss Cayden noch vieles lernen. Das Hunde-1x1, den Alltag in einem Zuhause und all die kleinen und großen Dinge, die zu einem glücklichen Hundeleben dazugehören. Er zeigt sich verträglich mit anderen Hunden und ist bereit, die Welt gemeinsam mit seinen Menschen zu entdecken. Für Cayden suchen wir engagierte Menschen oder eine liebevolle Familie, die ihn auf seinem weiteren Weg begleiten möchten. Ein Zuhause mit engem Familienanschluss ist uns besonders wichtig – ein Ort, an dem er gefördert und gefordert wird und endlich ankommen darf.Hinweis:Cayden kam mit einer genetisch bedingten Fehlbildung der Knochen zur Welt. Durch diese Anomalie wuchsen einzelne Knochenbereiche verformt und verdreht („verquirlt“), was sein natürliches Wachstum erheblich beeinträchtigte und zu schmerzhaften Einschränkungen im Bewegungsapparat führte. Nach eingehender tierärztlicher Diagnostik und in enger Abstimmung mit unserer Tierklinik in Ungarn wurde entschieden, die betroffenen Knochenabschnitte operativ zu korrigieren. In den jeweiligen Eingriffen wurden die fehlgebildeten Knochenstücke sorgfältig entfernt, um weiteres Fehlwachstum zu verhindern, Schmerzen zu reduzieren und eine verbesserte Beweglichkeit zu ermöglichen. Die Operation verlief erfolgreich. Wir werden euch weiterhin auf dem laufenden halten. RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_7c70af4f"); RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_35c9fbea");

About Cayden

What life with Cayden looks like

Cayden is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cayden, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cayden?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cayden on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cayden if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cayden already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cayden isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cayden and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
