Adopt Cayena

Greyhound · Female · Adult · 6 years

Greyhound female dog, born 01.03.2020, 67 cm. Also, Cayena originally came from hunting in Spain. After she was no longer used for hunting, she came under animal protection and was taken in by our partner organization in Madrid. There, she was cared for and prepared for the journey to us in Switzerland. Cayena, the Nervous One. Cayena is still a bit nervous on the road; everything is so new to her. This also includes the friendly and affectionate handling she now experiences here, which she apparently was not familiar with before. That she has a warm place and a cushioned bed with a soft lying surface, she enjoys, but unfortunately, it is only since her arrival with us that it has become the norm. Because Cayena’s fur indicates that she was mostly exposed to weather conditions without protection by her hunter and did not know a warm or at least sheltered accommodation. Character and nature—basic temperament: friendly, sensitive, hectic—Trust in people: Open, but a bit skeptical at the beginning.—Approachability, closeness: She seeks contact, but is still unsure and more hectic.—Social behavior towards dogs: She is social and interacts well with her fellow furred companions. She also wants to play with them in the dog group.—Social behavior towards cats: Not tested behavior and daily competence—Uncertainties: Environmental stimuli during walks outside—Adaptability to new situations: Good, although she needs a little time each time.—Curiosity: Cayena is curious, but still lacks the inner calm to meet new things with ease. She needs a little more time, but makes daily progress. Activity level and activity level—Activity drive: It would be high in general, but her coordination and condition have suffered. Both need to be trained here. Because Cayena wants to let off steam and tries to come out of herself, but gets overwhelmed by it sometimes herself.—Leash handling: This still needs to be practiced with her, because she is a little “eager” on the go.—Learning readiness: medium—Hunting motivation: present We wish for Cayena people who can let her forget the last six years of her life a little, take her with all her corners and edges in their hearts, laugh with her, and convey her inner calm and composure. Cayena is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. Interested?. This animal was abandoned.

About Cayena

What life with Cayena looks like

Cayena is a extra-large adult greyhound dog waiting at New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz in Waltenschwil.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cayena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cayena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cayena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cayena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cayena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cayena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with New Graceland - Auffangstation Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cayena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
