Adopt Chandro

Mixed Breed · Male

Chandro came to us together with Nala. Both are from another organization, have lived together so far and are looking for a preferred new home together. They are very attached to each other, Nala is Chandros shadow. We have set a deadline, after which both will be rehomed separately. Chandro is the more self-confident one, even though he is an insecure dog. He quickly gains trust and likes people of all sizes. He is athletic and agile and can adapt safely anywhere, in the urban environment an adjustment period is certainly necessary. Chandro should refresh his basic knowledge, he often barks at other dogs, but is always quickly correctable. His leash training could also use some refinement. Because he is attentive and clingy, training with him is surely enjoyable, cuddling anyway. In terms of character, he is very much a German Shepherd, anyone who likes this breed must love Chandro. Being alone without Nala needs to be tried, we think that after acclimation it is no problem, he knows how to sleep in the box. Chandro also likes car rides. He is compatible with female dogs, with male dogs it would need to be tested. According to the previous owner, Chandro is often cheeky with other dogs on walks. However, he was immediately corrected by another dog from the family, here with us he can be corrected very well with consistency. Because he shows uncertainties, we do not consider integrating him with other dogs impossible, even if he initially presents himself differently. Safety first, there will just be a trial showing of teeth and some commotion. The necessary trust building and a gentle but consistent education should therefore be taken into account beforehand. Very typical of the breed, Chandro wants to please and will go to great lengths in joint work. Anyone interested in both, we would be happy to place Chandro and Nala together. But also those interested in Chandro as a single dog or second dog can certainly contact us, the shelter life is not the ideal place for the sensitive mouse, maximum to find the right one with our help…

About Chandro

What life with Chandro looks like

Chandro is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chandro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chandro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chandro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chandro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chandro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chandro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chandro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
