Chappy

Mixed Breed · Male

Chappy, an active all-rounder with brains, is looking for a sporting home with heart and mind. The approximately three-year-old male dog of mixed German Shepherd breed is currently living at our partner animal shelter in Romania and shows himself there as friendly, open, and intelligent, being very attentive towards both men and women. Unfortunately, Chappy visibly suffers from the difficult conditions in the animal shelter. The constant noise, sensory overload, and lack of a stable primary caregiver take their toll on him physically and emotionally. Despite the efforts of the team, he is noticeably underweight – it's high time that the handsome male dog finally arrives at a place where he can thrive. In a home that provides him security while also mentally and physically challenging him would be perfect. Typical of a German Shepherd, Chappy brings many positive qualities: He is smart, eager to learn, cooperative, and loves movement. He enjoys thinking alongside his person, pleasing them, and is always ready to learn something new. As soon as he is allowed out of his enclosure, he visibly comes alive – in the run, he shows himself lively, curious, and full of energy. Walking on a leash already works well, and he greatly enjoys outings to new environments. A real highlight for him is water – whether it's a stream or a swimming pool, Chappy is enthusiastically involved. Currently, Chappy lives in a 3-person household with two other dogs and gets along socially and amicably with his fellow animals. Given that Chappy shows considerable interest in rapidly moving stimuli, we prefer not to place him in a household with cats. Of course, it cannot be forgotten that Chappy is a dog from international animal protection. So far, he only knows life in an animal shelter and is unfamiliar with the everyday life in a flat or house. Daily routines such as walking in traffic, car rides, or being alone are new to him, and adjusting to a new lifestyle can come with uncertainties. This makes it particularly important that his new family lead him confidently and patiently through these new impressions and support him safely during the initial period. In a stable environment with clear, loving guidance, Chappy can develop wonderfully – as he follows his primary caregiver well and wants to do everything right. We are hoping for a quieter, nature-close home with plenty of opportunities for movement and mental stimulation for Chappy. An active family who enjoys joint activities would be ideal, as dog sports, trailing, or trick training could be wonderful ways to challenge him and strengthen the bond. If you would like to give Chappy a future, we look forward to your message introducing your family and your living situation in detail. Chappy currently resides at our partner shelter in our area and can be transported to his new home or foster home neutered, vaccinated, treated against internal and external parasites, and microchipped.

About Chappy

What life with Chappy looks like

Chappy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope for lost Souls e.V. in Kleinostheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chappy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chappy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for lost Souls e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chappy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chappy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for lost Souls e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chappy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chappy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for lost Souls e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chappy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
