Doch schon nach kurzer Zeit hat er starke Schmerzen. Er humpelt nicht nur, sondern beginnt vor Schmerzen zu jaulen. Der Bruch ist leider nicht verheilt. Zwar hat sich bereits Kallus (neues Knochengewebe) gebildet, doch der Knochen ist noch immer nicht stabil. Jeder Schritt bereitet Charlie Schmerzen. Er kann nicht mit seinem Rudel auf gemeinsame Erkundungstouren gehen, zieht sich zunehmend zurück und möchte am liebsten allein sein. Der anhaltende Schmerz lässt ihn immer mehr von seiner Umgebung abschotten. Unseren sonst so fröhlichen, aufgeweckten und liebevollen Kerl so leiden zu sehen, bricht uns das Herz. Doch leider ist das noch nicht alles: Zur Vorbereitung auf die notwendige Operation ließen wir eine Blutuntersuchung durchführen. Dabei wurde festgestellt, dass Charlie mit Babesiose, Ehrlichiose und Filarien infiziert ist. Diese Erkrankungen müssen zunächst behandelt werden, bevor die Operation durchgeführt werden kann.
