Adopt CHARLIE

Podenco · Male · Adult · 7 years

From darkness to light: Meet CHARLIE CHARLIE arrived with us in March 2025, rescued from a past no one deserves: living his entire life chained to a short chain, 24/7, in miserable conditions. You can imagine how we picked him up... Fortunately, dogs have an infinite capacity for forgiveness, and CHARLIE only needs love and patience to recover. He's a bit shy but fully recoverable. He walks beautifully and gets along great with other dogs (especially females). With males, he's a bit dominant over food. CHARLIE is one of many retired to the same repeat offender; a hunter we've been denouncing for years, and whose maximum we've managed to get is a 6-month jail sentence that, of course, he never served, and 5 years without being able to have animals. With this kind of "justice," it's very easy to perpetuate animal abandonment and cruelty. Today, CHARLIE is not even the shadow of the dog we rescued. He's ready to experience what a real home is like. Do you want to give him the chance to be happy for the first time? Write to us or come visit us Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00, EXCEPT HOLIDAYS. No appointment is needed, we'll be happy to assist you!

No necesitas cita previa, ¡te atenderemos encantados!

About CHARLIE

What life with CHARLIE looks like

CHARLIE is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Protectora de Ibi in Ibi (Alicante).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting CHARLIE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CHARLIE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora de Ibi handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CHARLIE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CHARLIE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora de Ibi will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CHARLIE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CHARLIE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora de Ibi early rather than rehoming privately; they know CHARLIE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
