Chima

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Chima is at the shelter since: September 2026 Estimated age: born approx. September 2014 Estimated shoulder height: approx. 30 – 39 cm Estimated weight: approx. 5 – 9 kg Meet Chima right here in the video! Female dog Chima is looking for people with a heart for senior dogs. Chima lived on the property of a family who asked our team for support with having her neutered. When we wanted to pick Chima up, the family told us they did not want her back. For more information on how dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. Chima is a gentle and lovable senior who really enjoys being close to people. At first she prefers to observe new situations calmly, but once she trusts someone, she comes closer on her own and enjoys being petted. When the petting stops, she moves a little closer or gently nudges with her paw to get a bit more attention. Even on the playground, Chima kept seeking the closeness of her caregivers. She explored her surroundings curiously, came running when called, and happily accepted being petted. She also allowed herself to be lifted and carried in a relaxed way, leaning in trustingly. This furry friend is still new to the shelter. Our caregivers take the time to get to know and assess every dog. As we learn more about this furry friend's character, we will update this profile. Of course, you can already fill out a self-disclosure form for this dog. Chima was found to have biliary sludge, which is why she is currently being treated with ursodeoxycholic acid. Our adoption team knows the exact state of her health best. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. Chima wishes for a calm, loving home where she can settle in and enjoy the closeness of her people. She doesn't need big adventures, but people who give her their time, respect her needs, and accompany her at her own pace. To read about what it means to adopt an older female dog, see here. For this furry friend, we hope for people who understand that shelter dogs come with a certain history. We can never predict at the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. One thing is certain, though: whoever adopts instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively chooses against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adopting, first read through the . All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write to our adoption team.

About Chima

What life with Chima looks like

Chima is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chima, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chima?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chima on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chima if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Chima already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chima isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chima and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
