Chips

Cane Corso · Male · Young · 3 years

Hello World! My name is Chips. I was found running free, and fortunately, no one claimed me because I wasn't doing so well earlier. I am more unsure around strangers, especially men, and it takes me longer to warm up. Once the ice is broken, I am a loyal, seasoned, and loving companion. I can be unsure about new things, but with the support of a primary caregiver and enough time to observe the scary events, I quickly realize that nothing bad will happen to me and I become much braver the next time! My animal caretakers call me "Mamakind" because I like to snuggle closely to my trusted people when I am unsure — this gives me the necessary security. On the leash, I am well-behaved, and I usually handle dog encounters with great skill. I get along very well with dogs and can also coexist peacefully with cats. I can already wear a muzzle and travel in the car. Since I likely came from an illegal breeding — ear and tail docking are forbidden in Austria — my physical conditions are not the best. My hips are not in good condition. For more details, please have a personal conversation with our veterinarian. I am looking for a home with people who want to care for me with a loving and gentle touch. I still have a lot to learn, but I am incredibly eager to do everything right. I do not want to live directly in the city; it is too much hustle and bustle for me. Children should already be in their teenage years. My new people should have the time and opportunity to visit me often at the animal shelter so that we can build a good trust relationship. Do you want to give me a chance?.

Hallooo Welt! Dein Chips

About Chips

What life with Chips looks like

Chips is a large young adult cane corso dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia, requires gentle handling due to fearful nature especially with men, needs quiet environment away from city bustle

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chips, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chips?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chips on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chips if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chips already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chips isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chips and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
