Adopt JOHNNY

Cane Corso · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

A male dog wishes for a real home finally. JOHNNY needs one thing most: a stable environment and a person who can guide him affectionately and confidently. JOHNNY will only be rehomed to a 1-person or maximum 2-person household as a large family is too much for him. Once he settles in, he becomes a wonderful, affectionate, and loyal companion. Although the large male dog is not an endurance long-distance walker, stability is necessary due to his strength. JOHNNY is typically reserved and initially mistrustful, requiring several visits for him to get to know people. JOHNNY generally reacts peacefully to fellow animals and shows itself to be rather relaxed during social walks. His prey drive is minimal, and even deer seem to pique his curiosity rather than scare him. In the summer, JOHNNY enthusiastically splashes and plays in the water and also enjoys car rides. JOHNNY can be well-suited for a dog-friendly individual who lives alone. A home with a house and a larger fenced garden in a rural setting is sought. He is definitely not suitable for cramped conditions or an apartment. JOHNNY can stay alone for a certain period if he has access to a garden. Those interested in him should familiarize themselves with the breed and be aware that a certain territorial behavior is present, and unfamiliar visitors may not be greeted with immediate friendliness. JOHNNY takes his duties as the house guardian seriously in this regard. Potential adopters who wish to offer JOHNNY a loving and responsible "Forever Home" are cordially invited to visit.

About JOHNNY

What life with JOHNNY looks like

JOHNNY is a extra-large adult cane corso dog waiting at Tierheim Krems in Krems an der Donau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting JOHNNY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about JOHNNY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Krems handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw JOHNNY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt JOHNNY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Krems will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is JOHNNY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if JOHNNY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Krems early rather than rehoming privately; they know JOHNNY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
