Chispa

Mixed Breed · Unknown

In our initial conversations with potential adopters, we often ask: "Do you have someone who will take care of the dog if you have to go to the hospital or something happens to you?" This is a very personal question, and no one likes to confront their own vulnerability and mortality. But once you have taken on the responsibility of caring for a pet's life, this question becomes important — after all, our best friend should also be well cared for when we can no longer look after them. Three small new arrivals have just moved into ArcoNatura in Linares, whose owner probably assumed that someone from his circle of friends or family would take care of his dogs in an emergency — unfortunately, he was mistaken. The elderly man is now in need of care and can no longer take care of himself, so he has to move in with his sister, who gladly takes him in, but not his trio of miniature dogs. And since no one else wanted to take care of Patxi, Conan, and Chispa, the pampered and loved animals ended up in the animal shelter. For Conan, the seven-year-old (as of 02/2022) Chihuahua mix, a foster home was found immediately. Conan has very short fur and would have struggled through the nights at ArcoNatura. However, he, like Patxi and Chispa, will travel on one of the next transports to Germany to join a foster family. Small dogs have it harder in the animal shelter than their larger and heavier companions, because what might just be a "nudge" for one of our big dogs can quickly become fatal. That is why our small dogs are often kept separate and have to stay longer and more frequently in the cages or boxes. The four-year-old (as of 02/2022) Ulknudel Chispa is not let down by this, however. The cheerful Yorkshire terrier waits patiently until the door opens and someone has time for her. Then she enjoys every moment of affection, whether playing with four-legged friends or cuddling with the volunteers. Because Chispa is so people-oriented and affectionate, because the nights are cold, and the animal shelter is hopelessly overcrowded in February as usual, it is already clear that Chispa will be allowed to travel on one of the next transports to Germany — it would be great, of course, if there didn't have to be a stop in a foster family, but instead our little package could directly move into its permanent home. Very terrier-like, Chispa is eager to learn, curious, but also a quite self-assured and independent being. With her charm, this little lady conquers not only the world, but also every heart in a storm. If you have a lot of humor, like to cuddle and play, if you have children and/or other four-legged animals at home or in your neighborhood with whom Chispa can make friends, if you are ready to sometimes come home with a hedgehog on a leash on rainy days and laugh about it, if a happy, shining dog steals your socks from the bedroom, then please get in touch with our adoption team — Chispa is your ideal dog!

About Chispa

What life with Chispa looks like

Chispa is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chispa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chispa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chispa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chispa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chispa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chispa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chispa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
