Mark

Mixed Breed · Male

Mark looks a bit uncertain and melancholic from his warm sweater, but don't be deceived by the perfect doggy eyes of this one-year-old Podenco male dog - our cute new arrival has plenty of smarts. Mark was walking on a country road at night. A car driver spotted him and stopped to check if everything was okay with the lonely walker. The cheerful male dog was healthy and ran straight towards his new friend, and this friend couldn't bring himself to leave the friendly dog in the darkness and cold on a busy road. That first night, Mark was allowed to sleep with his rescuer, but this person already had several dogs in their care and couldn't offer a longer stay for his protege, but he confidently turned to our partners at ArcoNatura. And now Mark is staying at the animal shelter. The cheerful young dog has quickly adjusted to daily life, making friends with people and animals in no time and showing himself to be eager to learn and curious. You've probably already noticed, Mark is actually a dream dog and would be a great addition to any humorous and active family. Still, Marks chances of being adopted are not good, although he is nice, young, healthy, and a real joker and charmer - because Mark is just a Podenco. It's true, the Podenco is a running-loving hunting dog and it can take a long time before a representative of this breed can be let off the leash without concern, but this is not a problem that only affects Podencos (especially since it also depends on the character of each individual dog) and there are plenty of other ways to give the Podenco enough exercise. Dog sports, playing in the garden, even running alongside a bicycle, jogging, and many other things are excellent alternatives. On the positive side of these smart Spaniards, there are many points that are far more interesting. The Podenco is usually very quiet and balanced in the house. He doesn't tend to bark or overprotect, moves almost silently, and enjoys cuddles above all. As confident working dogs, most of them also learn quickly how to be alone without embellishing the furniture with extra holes or adding air holes to the family shoes. Give Mark a chance to prove how fantastic our bat ears fit on every couch - and we wouldn't be surprised if you soon find yourself becoming one of the many lovers of this wonderful breed, and we could hear once again: Once a Podenco, always a Podenco!

DE·Show original

About Mark

What life with Mark looks like

Mark is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mark, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mark?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mark on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mark if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mark already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mark isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mark and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
