Chocolate &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 8 months

Chocolate now lives in 76228, Karlsruhe. All the best, Chocolate. Heartfelt thanks, Mr. L. With Chocolate, the name is the program! Our first 8-month-old (as of August 2025) heartthrob is a dream come true with chocolate-colored fur and a small spot of sweet cream. But Chocolate isn't just a handsome dog on the outside; he's also a real cuddle ball, a super athlete, and already a comforter for his foster family. That Chocolate still loves people so much is a miracle, for the happy male dog was chained in a pen with a heavy chain when he was just a few weeks old. When strong rainfalls flooded the village where his owners lived in May, the owners left their puppy behind. The fire department found the distressed baby dog and freed him from the chain, after which Chocolate fled. A few days later, a girl from the village found the hungry and completely bewildered creature, and she never even considered returning Chocolate to his tormentors. She hid him for a few days at her place and then entrusted him to our friends at Dolmen Animal. The grateful puppy was allowed to join a loving foster family where he can now wait in peace for the family that would like to adopt him. Podencos are known for their intelligence, tireless energy, and tender nature. Our sprint and running wonders seek true teamwork and bond closely with their owners. Their fascinating bat-like ears have an excellent sense of smell and are agile, which is why they are used for hunting in Spain or, better, misused. But as true athletes, they also need ample exercise (with opportunities for sprints) and mental challenges as family dogs. Chocolate is a bundle of energy with a lot of playful pranks on his mind. He is cuddly and playful, loves long walks, and quickly makes friends with both big and small, four-legged and two-legged, and – which is more of an exception for Podencos – he even gets along well with cats in the house (though we cannot say how it is with the neighbor's cats). If you want to sweeten your everyday life with a little Chocolate and Cream, feel free to place your order!

Chocolate lebt jetzt in 76228, Karlsruhe. Alles Gute, Chocolate.

About Chocolate &#8211

What life with Chocolate &#8211 looks like

Chocolate &#8211 is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chocolate &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chocolate &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chocolate &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chocolate &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chocolate &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chocolate &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chocolate &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
