Chopper

Male Β· Adult Β· 6 years

Meet Chopper! (27kg) Chopper is a very sweet and friendly boy who has so much love to give. When he first came into our care, he was very barky, but as soon as he got to know the staff and felt safe his personality began to shine through. He loves a fuss and attention and is always happy to come over for some affection. He does sometimes forget quite how strong he is when he comes over to say hello – he can be a little enthusiastic with his greetings. But underneath his big personality is a lovely, affectionate boy who enjoys spending time with people. Chopper can be quite vocal while in his kennel, but once he is out and about he settles nicely. He particularly enjoys his off-lead time in our secure compound where he can have a good run. He also loves getting out for walks in the area exploring, he can be strong on the lead so will need continued lead training. He would benefit from an active family that can continue giving him plenty of exercise and enrichment. Chopper will need someone who is willing to commit to his training and socialisation. Sadly, Chopper came into our care with cropped ears. His ears will need to be regularly monitored and cared for to ensure they remain healthy, and this will need to be considered by anyone looking to offer him a home. We are looking for a committed home who will give Chopper the time, structure, exercise and affection he deserves. In return, you’ll have a loving, fun and affectionate boy who is ready to enjoy the next chapter of his life. He will need a private secure garden. Chopper has interacted ok with other dogs whilst in our care, but we do feel he would be best rehomed as the only dog in the household where he can get 100% of the attention and training. As Chopper came into the home as a stray, we have no previous history on him so would prefer any children in the home to be 16+ years.

About Chopper

What life with Chopper looks like

Chopper is a large adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chopper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chopper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chopper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chopper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Chopper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chopper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chopper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
