Salem

Female Β· Young Β· 2 years

Meet Salem! She is looking for an active and understanding home where she can really thrive. Salem can be nervous and unsure around new people but once she has built that trust, her sweet personality begins to shine through. Being a typical Terrier, Salem is full of energy and enthusiasm! she loves getting out for long walks and would be a fantastic companion for someone who enjoys plenty of outdoor adventures. She will need a very active home that can provide her with lots of daily exercise as well as plenty of mental stimulation to keep her busy and happy. Salem absolutely loves toys and enjoys having something to play with and keep her occupied. She can, however, be quite the toy destroyer when she gets bored, so enrichment and appropriate things to chew will be important for her. Salem can be vocal while in her kennel, particularly when she is excited, frustrated or looking for attention. She would benefit from owners who understand Terrier traits and are happy to continue training and socialisation with her. She will need a private secure garden. Salem was previously rehomed but has since been returned to our care following an incident involving another dog. She can get along with some dogs but her previous owner said she wasn’t compatible with all dogs, so her interactions need to be carefully managed. Her new owner will need to be understanding of her individual needs and committed to working with her through gradual, controlled introductions and ongoing training to help her feel comfortable around other dogs. She will need an owner who is willing to take things at her pace. Salem will need to be the only dog in the home.

About Salem

What life with Salem looks like

Salem is a small young adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Salem, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Salem?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Salem on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Salem if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Salem already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Salem isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Salem and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
