Chrissy

Female · Senior · 10 years

My husband was the love of my life. Now I need a new chapter. Oh. You noticed me? Chrissy here. (Born 16.01.2016, small, neutered) You might know me as Balou’s wife. I loved that giant man with my whole tiny alien heart. This Easter, I lost him. And I miss him. I’ve spent more than half my life at Mayday. At first, I didn’t trust humans at all and spent most of my time hiding. But I’ve come such a long way. Let me approach you, give me time and I’ll enjoy scratches, walk with you and, once I trust you, even cuddle. These days, my problem is almost the opposite: I’m quiet, laid back and easy to overlook. But I’m also small, ridiculously cute and a very special little alien. Most importantly, I need other dogs around me. I don’t want to be an only dog. I need a pack to follow, sleep next to and possibly clean obsessively. I lost my great love this year. Maybe I can spend the other half of my life in a family and find a new one.

About Chrissy

What life with Chrissy looks like

Chrissy is a very small senior dog waiting at Mayday Algarve in Algarve.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chrissy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chrissy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Mayday Algarve handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chrissy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chrissy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Mayday Algarve will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Chrissy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chrissy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Mayday Algarve early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chrissy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
