Chucu

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

I want to tell you about Chucu, a story that has deeply moved me in recent days. Chucu won the big lottery in July and was adopted by a family. This 2.5-year-old male dog is friendly, athletic, very eager to learn, loves cuddling, and wants to please his primary caregiver immensely. He is more of an introverted type (barks very rarely), wants to be wherever he can be but not too pushy, loves treats, and is delighted with every small attention he receives from his primary caregiver. His family writes: "He walks well next to a bicycle, while jogging, and sits nicely in the bike trailer. He can also be alone, although he doesn't like it much. He shows no prey drive and has always been responsive. He ensures on his own that he stays near his primary caregiver. Compatibility with other animals depends on sympathy. If he senses that the other dog is 'weaker' than him, he sometimes even bites. However, you can briefly remind him to be nice, and then he stays with his human and ignores the other dog :). In addition to his training, he has been with me in obedience training from the beginning. He is ambitious and has already learned a lot. Sometimes you have to show him exactly what you want from him, but then he can carry it out quite quickly. He is definitely suitable for the sport. We also did some Hoopers. He had a lot of fun with that. He doesn't need to be mentally stimulated every day, but he enjoys it and offers it on his own. Long walks with tricks are enough for him. The perfect dog for active people. Unfortunately, it turned out that Chucu does not like to share. Especially not the love of his trusted people. He does not accept the children living in the house (2 and 4 years old) as higher-ranking, which he expresses through fierce nipping..." This is the reason why the family has to reluctantly separate from Chucu. The family tried many things, but the little guy needs a child-free household with a gentle, yet clear and consistent leadership. Therefore, we are urgently looking for a foster home or permanent placement for Chucu.

About Chucu

What life with Chucu looks like

Chucu is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chucu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chucu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chucu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chucu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chucu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chucu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chucu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
