Chupa

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 10 months

At the animal shelter since: January 2026 Estimated age: born around August 2025 Estimated height at withers: about 40 - 59 cm Get to know Chupa directly in the video! Helplessly abandoned, when will puppy Chupa finally be happy? Puppy girl Chupa was rescued from the Romanian street along with her sister Chups and taken into the animal shelter. The little fur noses were heartlessly left in a bag shortly after their birth. More information about how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Chupa is a charming puppy girl who is however very reserved and distant towards people. She cautiously sniffs the caretakers upon greeting, is only briefly petted, and repeatedly retreats into her hut. Additionally, she barks a lot out of uncertainty - even during interactions with other dogs. On the playground of the shelter, she is also rather easily startled by outside noises and keeps distance from the caretakers. Overall, Chupa strongly relies on her sister Chups. With her, the sweet fur nose interacts lively and attentively, gently nudges her, and actively participates in the shared play. If you would like more information about this fur nose, feel free to write to our adoption team. For Chupa we are looking for experienced dog people who give her enough time to slowly gain trust and get to know the world outside the shelter. Puppies should not have to grow up in the animal shelter. Therefore, we are urgently looking for a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little fur nose - a place where she can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding daily life with a young dog can be: As soon as housebreaking is achieved, often the "wild puberty" comes next - full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog go through together - with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We wish for this fur nose people with patience, empathy, and perseverance - and with the understanding that rescue dogs often already have a certain story behind them. How exactly they will react to a new life in Germany cannot be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Adopting instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance, but also actively chooses against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are thinking about adoption, please read the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you still have questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

About Chupa

What life with Chupa looks like

Chupa is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chupa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chupa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chupa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chupa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chupa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chupa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chupa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
