Cleo

Labrador Retriever · Female

A loving, friendly, and strong-willed companion, open to familiar people and dogs. She initially barks at strangers until she considers them trustworthy. Cleo is compatible with other dogs, but needs an initial warming-up phase. She grew up with other dogs and a cat, but has a hunting instinct with unfamiliar cats. Unfamiliar situations challenge her, but she has so far mastered everything with flying colors. Cleo is vigilant, makes herself known, but can be quickly caught again with clear commands. Cleo loves water and likes to exert herself - due to her hunting instinct in secure off-leash areas or on a long leash. She is on a leash, knows how to drive a car, and does not tend to resource guarding. We wish this lovable lady a home where she experiences clear and understandable communication. Consistently, lovingly, and ideally with a confident first dog by her side.

DE·Show original

Rasse: Labrador-Bichon-Frisé-Mix Schultergröße: ca. 30 cm Liebevolle, freundliche und charakterstarke Wegbegleiterin, welche bekannten Menschen und Hunden gegenüber aufgeschlossen ist. Fremde Menschen verbellt sie zuerst, bis sie diese als vertrauenswürdig eingeschätzt hat. Mit anderen Hunden ist Cleo verträglich, braucht aber zuerst eine Aufwärmphase. Sie wuchs mit anderen Hunden und einer Katze auf, hat bei fremden Katzen aber einen Jagdtrieb. Unbekannte Situationen fordern sie heraus, aber bisher hat sie alles mit Bravour gemeistert. Cleo ist wachsam, macht sich dann bemerkbar, lässt sich aber mit klaren Kommandos schnell wieder einfangen. Cleo liebt das Wasser und powert sich gerne aus - aufgrund des Jagdtriebs im gesicherten Freilauf oder an der Schleppleine. Sie ist leinenführig, kennt das Autofahren und neigt nicht zur Ressourcenverteidigung. Wir wünschen uns für diese liebenswerte Dame ein Zuhause, in dem sie klare und verständliche Kommunikation erfährt. Konsequent, liebevoll und bestmöglich mit einem souveränen Ersthund an ihrer Seite. display: none !important; .lSSlideOuter .lSPager.lSGallery {

About Cleo

What life with Cleo looks like

Cleo is a adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Porz in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cleo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cleo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Porz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cleo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cleo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Porz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cleo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cleo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Porz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cleo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
